The temperature in the gharials' enclosure is being maintained at 26 degrees celsius and high voltage bulbs have been installed to keep the bay warm. The young gharials also feed on insects that buzz around the bulbs at night.
Zoo director Basanta Rajkumar said, ''The amphibians have been kept away from their parents. It is a known fact that the elder gharials can at times feed on their offspring.''
